A military order is a command, instruction, or authorization issued by the head of state or government and enforced by the armed forces. Military orders are distinct from standard military regulations due to their inherent nature as an expression of authority rather than merely formal instruction. The best-known military order is the Order of the Knights of the Teutonic Order, an order of knighthood founded in the 13th century that grew to be one of the largest and most influential orders in Europe.
